New contemporary art show urges its art lovers to Go West! As I’ve mentioned in an earlier post a few months back, (‘Go East’) Go West is the second installment of a bi-coastal collaboration between two well-respected and prominent galleries: Joshua Liner Gallery in NYC and the Mark Moore Gallery in Culver City, California.
This new show is a follow-up to their Go East art show curated by Mark Moore earlier this year. Go West features Kris Kuksi, David Ellis, and is curated by New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. While this show makes for Ellis’ third solo exhibition in Los Angeles, this will be Kuksi’s first local solo presentation.
Both artists draw from history and project a highly creative aesthetic to their artwork unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Ellis works with a number of art mediums; always showcasing a modernist sensibility for his love of music, especially hip-hop and jazz. Kuksi’s approach is majestic in his altar-like compositions, bringing in a sense of history and nostalgia; but yet contemporary enough to highlight his multifaceted divergent thinking.
Artistaday.com recently interviewed guest curator, Joshua Liner (owner of the Joshua Liner Gallery) and here’s what he had to say about both talented artists:
“‘I think David Ellis is one of the most talented artists working today. I know that’s a big statement, but David just has artistry oozing out of him. He works in so many different styles and mediums, and really defines what a well rounded artist could be. Working in installation, video, sculpture, and painting, there is not much that he can’t do, one way or another. He’s also a living performance piece, David never ceases to amaze me. David is definitely an artist’s artist and I feel the best from him is yet to come, which is incredible and in some ways scary too.'”
“‘I distinctly remember the first time I saw Kris Kuksi’s work. He sent a submission to my gallery back in 2005 when it was located in Philadelphia under the name Lineage Gallery. I was blown away, it was something I had never seen before, and was immediately intrigued by the work. The attention to detail is second to none. The concepts and ideas seemed so original to me. I knew this was a special artist and I asked him to participate in a group show that summer. We have been working together ever since and every time I see a new work I get the same feeling as the first time I saw one of his creations.'”
Go West is currently on display at the Mark Moore Gallery (in California) from now till August 25th. To see pics of their most recent NYC showing, scroll down.
