This past Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the screening for the comedic webseries East WillyB, followed by a panel discussion with the cast at the Museum of Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. East WillyB is a hysterical bilingual comedy that premiered in 2011 – Julia Grob and Yamin Segal are the show’s creators. The show stars Flaco Navaja, Shirley Rumierk, Rick Gonzalez, and Danny Hoch. The show is centered on the gentrification of East Williamsburg, Brooklyn (hence the name) as it chronicles the adventures of Bushwick Sports Bar owner Willie Jr. The show also follows the lives of the bar’s regulars and how they deal with the trails and tribulations of living in an ever changing Brooklyn. The series has been an online sensation via Youtube with more than 40,000+ views since its inception. And now that they’ve premiered their second season (which I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing as a commentary writer for Remezcla.com. To read my commentary, click here) they’re aiming to be picked up by a major network.
Here are a few pictures from the nights festivities:
